Weekly Updates ~ May 27-31

Happy Sunday, Tornado Families!

Good luck to our Grade 3 students this week as they participate in EQAO testing. Be proud of your efforts.

A reminder that this Friday is a PA Day for staff, so there is no school for the students. This Friday is also EA and CYW Appreciation Day – Thank you, Mrs. Wilk, Mrs. Snyder and Miss Santos, for all you do!

Thank you to all our parents and grandparents who were able to supervise our Grade 4 to 8 students on Wednesday when they attended the KW Glee Concert at the Centre in the Square. We appreciate your time, as our students would not have been able to attend without supervisors.

We want to congratulate our Intermediate Co-Ed Soccer team, which won their tournament on Wednesday afternoon under the coaching of Mr. Clouthier and Mrs. Kuntz! Way to go, Tornados!

Thank you to the parents, extended family and friends who joined us at the Bingo fundraiser at the Lions Hall. Every little bit counts! We are now deep in planning for our End of Year Family BBQ on Tuesday, June 18th—more information to follow.

Parent/Guardian Math Survey

Dear Families,

Schools offer a variety of opportunities for parents to learn more about how to support their children: for example, events related to mathematics may be held at the school (e.g., family math nights); teachers may provide newsletters or communicate with parents through apps or social media; and school or board websites may provide helpful tips about how parents can engage in their child’s mathematics learning outside of school and may even provide links where they can learn more or enjoy math activities together.

The following brief survey will assist our school district in gathering data about how parents/families feel in terms of being informed about what their children are learning in math, how parents/families feel about supporting their children’s learning in math, and about parental access to math learning resources at home.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and participation.

https://bit.ly/SupportingMathAtHomeSurvey2024  This survey will remain open until June 14, 2024.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the collection of this information please contact K-12 Mathematics Coordinator, Board Math Lead, Petra LeDuc at petra.leduc@wcdsb.ca , 519-578-3660 extension 2415.

Best,

Petra

May Deep Learning Skill: Inclusion and Belonging

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As May unfolds at St. Teresa of Avila School, we are proud to dedicate this month to fostering Inclusion and Belonging in our educational journey. This initiative is deeply woven into our commitment to create a learning environment that not only promotes academic excellence but also nurtures a sense of community and mutual respect among all members of our school family.

This month, our students will engage in a series of activities designed to cultivate a culture that recognizes Our students will explore the importance of inclusivity in a welcoming and nurturing environment.

Our focus on Inclusion and Belonging aims to ensure that all students feel valued and are empowered to reach their full potential. We strive to educate our young learners about different cultures, enhancing their understanding and appreciation for the diverse world in which we live. We encourage students to seek out and celebrate diverse perspectives, fostering a rich learning environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Inclusion and Belonging are more than just themes; they are essential pillars of our educational philosophy. We encourage you to engage with your child about their experiences and learnings around these topics, discussing the importance of empathy, kindness, and respect in everyday life. Your involvement is crucial in reinforcing these values and extending our students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom walls.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this meaningful journey together. By focusing on Inclusion and Belonging, we are laying the foundation for a more understanding, inclusive, and cohesive community where every individual is appreciated and empowered.

Your partner in education,

P. Pizarro

Weekly Updates ~ May 13-17

Good afternoon, Tornado Families!

We ended our Catholic Education Week with a living rosary on Friday afternoon, led by the Grade 6 class and their kindergarten Book Buddies. It was a beautiful experience to hear all the students praying the Lord’s Prayer and Hail Mary. We also had some prayers in other languages. We, indeed, are “Called to love.” We also welcome Colombian exchange students who arrive at our school on Monday and will be with us for four weeks.

Congratulations to the students who performed at the Folk Dance Festival on Thursday at RIM Park. They proudly represented our school and put on an outstanding performance!

Some of our grade 7 students will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday. We send them blessings as they receive this special sacrament.
